3 AR Use-Cases That Can Make the World a Better Place

One of the most significant breakthroughs of technology is the invention of AR and VR. Some people are not aware of the difference between these two terms. For those who are not familiar with the terms, here’s an article that clarifies that.

AR is Becoming a Part of the New Tech Revolution

Experts are convinced that this decade, the 2020s, is going to get us a revolution in technology like we have never seen before. Not just because of the rise of AR, but other industries too. Drone technology is already being widely used, same as AI. Autonomous vehicles are taking over the streets and virtual reality is not just a gaming revolution anymore. All this proves that AR is not alone in this, but it may be one of the most important features of the tech breakthrough from this decade.

So where can AR be used and how is it making the world a better place?

1. Becoming a Top-Notch, Experienced Surgeon

Saving a patient’s life is one of the greatest feelings in the world. It’s the reason why doctors get into medical school in the first place. However, to achieve the mastery of surgery and gain the experience to perform complex procedures, students who are about to become surgeons need a lot of practice.

For a long time, students operated on real corpses dissecting and practicing on people who passed away. There was no other way to learn about the human body and the organs inside.

Now, with the help of augmented reality, medical students can be present during real-life surgeries and virtually perform the procedure along with the surgeon. By the time they need to be in the operating room, performing the surgeries themselves, they will already be skilled enough.

2. Learning to Pilot Like a Veteran

One of the most complex jobs in the world is the position of a pilot. It doesn’t matter if you want to become a private pilot, a commercial pilot or an Air Force pilot, you need to go through extensive training, and some procedures that are far from simple.

Though AR can not still completely replace all the procedures, tools and training equipment, it can definitely support it in various ways, especially in combination with VR. There are already some examples of augmented reality software in the works that should be able to make Air Force pilot training equally efficient, but less expensive.

Aside from that, there are also some projects which focus on using AR for making aviation both safer and better.

3. Customer Support Available at the Spot

So, you got a high-tech item, but it doesn’t work. There’s no way for you to fix the problem, so you call customer support. Imagine if the person that needs to handle the problem appears right away and does what needs to be done. Cool, huh?

Now imagine what happens when a large company orders serious equipment that mustn’t get broken, disconnected, or fail at all times. At the same time, let’s say there are only 20 people in the world who are skilled in maintaining it. Hundreds of items and just 20 people to maintain them all. How to solve this problem?

Thanks to AR, it’s possible to create an environment where two or more engineers can work together, even though they are not all physically present on the spot. They might be on a completely different continent, but with the hands of a person who’s present, the problem will be fixed.

Conclusion

Getting a closer look into the numbers of the industries we mentioned, you’ll see that AR can be highly helpful with saving lives and saving money. For example, it is estimated that due to surgery failures, around 4.2 million people die each year. At the same time, the businesses suffer a $75 billion loss due to poor customer service. That’s a lot of money.

According to Statista, the AR/VR industry is worth around $18 billion. In 2017, it was only around $9 billion. If the rising trend continues, we can expect some amazingly impressive numbers in the future.
