OhShape and Synth Riders are both popular VR games based on music and rhythm. During coronavirus lockdowns, both have released expanded packages to encourage gamers to stay happy and healthy by working out inside in fun and natural ways.
A few days ago, developers of the games announced a duo package for the Oculus Quest that lets VR gamers get both games as well as a new song and other additional features at a 30% discount.
“We think this collaboration is the beginning of a great way to explore synergies between our games and our communities, and it’s been great to tag-team it with our friends at OhShape,” Synth Riders CEO Arturo Perez said in a release shared with ARPost. “We are always looking to push the boundaries of the VR rhythm genre and are proud to be the first to bring a collaborative approach to our updates.”
Synth Riders tasks gamers with hitting oncoming targets while dodging oncoming obstacles, all to the beats of catchy songs. In April, the team rolled out a load of new updates including larger room size, compatibility with fitness trackers that can be read in-game, and live fitness classes.
OhShape has gamers moving their bodies to fit through cut-out shapes in oncoming walls, also to the beat of energetic tunes. They also released a #StayHome Update that included new songs and difficulty levels, as well as fitness tracking.
The Synth Riders and OhShape duo package is available now on the Oculus Quest for $27.99.
To celebrate the “first of its kind collaboration between VR rhythm games,” the developer teams also worked together to add a custom-mapped and choreographed track to each game for the same song – Jamie Berry’s “Delight.”
If you already have one or both of these games, don’t worry – the new song will still be made available in the Oculus Store and Steam.
To make things more exciting, gamers can register for the Delight Collab Contest. Solo players and teams can compete for prizes including Amazon gift cards and exclusive merchandise like mugs and T-shirts. The winners will be announced in a special stream on July 1.
OhShape and Synth Riders are some of the biggest rhythm VR games out there right now. While they could be competitors, it’s exciting to see these companies offering similar products coming together to promote each other for the good of their mutual fans.
