Location-based VR experiences company Zero Latency and fantasy miniatures manufacturer Games Workshop are teaming up for a brand-new immersive VR adventure. The result of the partnership will be the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine immersive adventure, which will be released next year. The VR experience will be a companion to the much-anticipated Space Marine 2 game.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is in a league of its own. With support from game developer Focus Interactive, Zero Latency will be using Unreal Engine 5 to build this immersive VR experience, fashioned after the Warhammer 40K: Space Marine series.

Highlights of the Upcoming VR Experience

The 30-minute free-roam VR experience will run on Zero Latency’s latest platform. Gamers who played other Warhammer 40K games will recognize familiar locations and characters. The Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine multiplayer experience supports up to eight gamers at once. Their goal is to go on a daring mission to prove their ultimate loyalty to humankind.

Multiple players can fight as a squad of superhuman Space Marines. As the eponymous genetically-altered super soldiers, they will fight for the Imperium of Man. And they do it all with custom-built VR controller setups.

In terms of specs, gamers will enjoy 5K visual fidelity with a refresh rate of 90Hz, 360-degree audio, and a 120-degree range of vision.

A Collaboration Between Two Gaming Giants

Zero Latency is the team behind some of the most sophisticated free-roam VR experiences. Its partnership with Games Workshop proves the studio’s commitment to creating more complex and immersive VR games.

In 2021, the company teamed with Ubisoft to add the Far Cry universe to its exclusive catalog. With remote-rendering 6E streaming solutions, the studio is enhancing the player’s experience.

Scott Vandokelaar, CTO of Zero Latency, said that immersing users in the Space Marine world for the first time is a dream fulfilled. “We’ve always set out to create the world’s most effortless immersive experiences, and our new Space Marine adventure will deliver something that’s simply been impossible until now,” said Vandokelaar in a press release shared with ARPost.

On the other hand, Games Workshop makes the best miniatures for fantasy games in the world. It designs, produces, sells, and distributes scale models of game characters, including those from Warhammer. The company also sells books and model kits. Game Workshops have a massive global reach. It distributes in over 50 countries. It has more than 500 physical stores, an online shop, and other retail channels.

Games Workshop’s Global Head of Licensing, Jon Gillard, revealed that they are collaborating closely with the Zero Latency team. “We are working closely with their talented team, and using their groundbreaking platform and technology, we know this partnership is going to generate an amazing VR experience that will surprise and delight anyone who’s ever wanted to be a Space Marine,” said Gillard. “Warhammer: 40,000: Space Marine 2 is going to be one of the biggest Warhammer video games ever, and it is hugely anticipated by fans globally. This is a fantastic extension of the franchise. ”

Zero Latency and Games Workshop will release the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine VR immersive adventure in 2023.
