Are you looking for new titles to add to your collection of immersive games? Then prepare for loads of action, because we have prepared a list of 5 VR games you should play this year if you haven’t already. We have something for everyone: action, music, dystopian worlds, and plenty of opportunities to be the winner of epic battles.

A Growing Demand for Immersive Entertainment

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how important XR technologies are for mitigating the disruptive effects of lockdown. As people have had to adjust to working, shopping, and having fun at home, they discovered the benefits of escaping into a virtual world, where they can be anything they want: superheroes, fairytale beings, or simply humans with a complex destiny.

Many VR games bring to life these characters and meet the players’ demands for escapism in a world that is anything but mundane and boring. Focusing on these ideas, our team picked some of the most exciting virtual reality games you should add to your “to-play list.”

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR

Platforms: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PSVR

The Elder Scrolls saga needs no introduction. It is a metaverse that keeps growing and attracting new players on almost every gaming platform in existence. Thus, it was only to be expected that we’d have a VR version of the hugely popular 2011 single-player episode.

The title included in our top VR games of 2021 aims to offer the player a highly detailed and immersive experience of the Tamriel world. Players will enjoy full motion control on both hands and use realistic gestures in battle.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR also features the Dawnguard and Hearthfire expansions.

2. Beat Saber

Platforms: HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, Rift and Rift S, PSVR, Valve Index, Windows Mixed Reality

Are you trying to have fun and stay fit at the same time? So do we, and this is exactly why we included Beat Saber in our list of the “must-play” VR games. So, what is happening in this game?

You are armed with lightsabers, like a Jedi knight, and fighting off various color-coded blocks to the tune of high-paced music. That’s right, you fight and dance your way out of the game in order to win it.

You will definitely do some serious physical exercises during this game, so this is a win-win for every kind of player and a great way of replacing your daily hour in the gym.

3. Doom VFR

Platforms: PSVR, HTC Vive

This is a game you should be playing in a room with plenty of space to move around. You will have to raise or lower your profile and make sharp turns, so make sure that there is plenty of open space to avoid bumping into furniture.

In this VR adaptation of the 2016 DOOM game, players will encounter new challenges and a different storyline. The dynamics of the combat scenes are clearly designed with VR gameplay in mind.

So, if you are ready to fight off some ugly demons and save the world, Doom VFR is one of the VR games that should be on your list of the games to play this year.

4. Ghost Giant

Platform: PSVR

After demons and mythical universes, it’s time for a different kind of virtual world – a quaint little town called Sancourt. The player appears like a ghost-like figure in the game, and must help a cat named Louis and all the inhabitants of the town.

With charming graphics and lots of exciting puzzles to solve, Ghost Giant deserves a place among the 5 VR games you should try.

5. The Talos Principle VR

Platforms: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive

If you want to experience a chill game, with less action and more focus on exploring a beautifully created virtual world, we recommend The Talos Principle VR. Guided by a disembodied voice, the player discovers the story of the last days of humans on earth.

As the gameplay progresses, the player will learn his role in the new world, while solving puzzles that require mental focus and fighting off drones.
